From one place to another, Thai architecture has its own regional significance that displays Thai culture, beliefs and lifestyle. It also indicates the historical influence from one period to another.
In the North, with the conquest of Burma, many temples and houses show their Burmese influence with wood carving ornaments and several slant levels of high roofs. The best known northern architecture is Ruen Galae; the style of house with two separated roofs that share the same airy verandah. In the South, a blend of Western and Chinese features is outstanding in Phuket while the Malay lineament is more in the four deep-south provinces. Khmer and Laos have displayed their influences in the northeastern area or the so-called Isan. Many temples appear in the style of Angkor Wat. In Bangkok and the Central, the historic houses and buildings pronounce their Chinese and Western importance along the River of Chao Praya. The style of ancient and traditional houses in Ayuthaya is considered the timeless architecture that many people try to conserve it.
