Silk Route 1
Silk Route 2

A unique work of textile art from the hands of a rural Thai woman makes Thai silk best known not only in all the country, but also throughout the world.  Besides, Thai cotton is also popular.  With particular skills of hand weaving, it makes Thai silk and cotton become original and characteristic in quality and decorative designs.

Among the charming models which have been handed from one generation to another, the patterns of Khid, Mudmee or Ikat, Nam Lai, Praewa, and Tin Jok are the most introduced.

The first four mentioned designs are mainly found in Isan or the northeastern region of Thailand.  It is the area whose majority people are Thai-Laos.  Thus, the same motifs of textile as this area can also be seen in Laos.  Meanwhile, Tin Jok is the distinctive design in the northern part of Thailand.  The well known Tin Jok designs are found at Ban Had Seow in Sukhothai province – the first ancient capital of Thailand, and in Mae Cham – a village of Chiangmai.

From the North to the North-East and vice versa, Culture and Tour organizes the wonderful programs especially for the textile lovers.  During the excursion, you will
  • Drop in on different hand weaving villages and their workshops.
  • Discover the fabric making process; starting from making silk and cotton into yarn, dyeing and hand-weaving them until getting a sheet of cloth.
  • Find different weaving techniques and particular designs from one area to another.
  • See the private collection of some textile collectors.
  • Visit some selected textile museums with their splendid pieces.

For the client’s benefit, our tours are made in a small group from 2 to 7 people.  Either professionals or amateurs, you will have a beautiful weaving tour which you will have never experienced it elsewhere, but in Thailand.  For more information and the visit, please email to: contact@cultureandtour.com
